Abstract

What are the views of the Italian secondary school students about the future of education, and what conception of Europe are they developing? This report presents the results of the survey “Futures for education and europeanity”, which in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, collected the opinions of the Italian Provincial Student Councils, representative bodies spread throughout the country, about the current situation of the school, about what aspects should be enhanced, how Europe is perceived and what visions of europeanity they would tend to. Among the key issues addressed, the competences - provided or to be developed -, distance learning, participation in the decisional processes about the educational system, the sense of belonging at territorial level, the elements considered as founding of Europe, European values, migrations. An encouraging picture emerges, of a young generation that identifies with Europe, conceived as a cultural and cosmopolitan pole that promotes democracy values and rights.
